Design your life – Read more.
Reading is good for your brain. Good for conversation, vocabulary, focus, concentration and meditation. The list of benefits goes on.
If you tend to watch television for down time, then try limiting TV to an hour a day and replacing your usual program with 30 minutes of documentary on something that interests you. Netflix is bursting with great content and under $10 per month.
Make it a ritual to read for 30 minutes per day. Do it at lunch, on the bus, before bed, on the treadmill, or while riding your bike. Amazon doubled their market a few years ago when they introduced Audible – over 150,000 titles on on mp3. So if you’re like me and love to multi-task, then getting exercise and listening to an audiobook at the same time is a feast.
My best purchase for a long time was a set of Bose Noise cancelling headphones. Wireless, with a microphone so I can take calls, etc. Now, I can cook, clean, walk, hike and commute with only the sound I want and without the noise of the environment–unless it’s nature.
Stuck for something to read? Write a list of things that interest you then Google them with the keyword ‘book’ or ‘audiobook’. My favourites are health, finance, personal development, business, autobiographies, etc.
Warning! Reading in the dark is not good for our eyes – the strain makes us tired quicker. Nor is a bright phone or tablet screen – the blue light can make it harder to get to sleep.
So, what are you reading at the moment?
Be amazing, even while you read :)
Dan.
